Christmas Door Wreath Workshops 2018

New dates announced for Christmas Door Wreath Workshops 2018.

A few dates when we will be closed

Just to keep you informed. We will be closed on Friday 3 August 2018 through to Monday 6 August 2018. I will be having an extremely special birthday and hope I'm being whisked away somewhere exotic (a girl can dream!!).

Back open on Tuesday 7 August 2018.

The Good Florist Guide

We are delighted to announce that we have had our membership renewed in the exclusive Good Florist Guide, the gold standard of floristry and the only merit-based guide to the finest florists in the UK and Republic of Ireland. Acknowledged as the 'little black book' of the very best British and Irish florists Eden Florists, Leatherhead were awarded the prestigious accolade last week. Owner Joanna Eagelton described themselves as over the moon and delighted.

To be part of GFG, each florist undergoes a rigorous evaluation process before being approved and this process is checked each year to ensure standards are being maintained. And it isn't just the flowers that get checked. Eden Florists, Leatherhead have had to show that every part of their business is as gorgeous as the flowers ... right down to the delivery vehicle ... to make sure they meet the strict criteria of not just offering gorgeous designs, but also the best service and value for bespoke floristry and flowers.

Caroline Marshall-Foster, Editor of floristry's industry bible The Florist Magazine, and Chief Executive of Good Florist Guide set it up as a way to ensure customers always receive top quality floristry from businesses that value excellent customer service.

Hand-Made in Leatherhead Scented Candles

We are extremely proud to announce the introduction of our hand-made "Made in Leatherhead" scented vintage tea cup candles.

The vintage tea cups are sourced from the charity shops in Leatherhead and the vegan friendly wax is melted in our High Street shop in Leatherhead town centre.

Currently flavours consist of Vanilla and the popular Wild Fig & Cassis. The scent really does fill the whole room and the wick burns with a gentle flame.

These candles are not available on our website, but are available only in our High Street shop in Leatherhead. Made in Leatherhead scented candles are extremely popular and the vintage tea cups do vary.

Finalists in the Surrey Muddy Stilettos Awards 2018

A big "Thank you" to all our customers who nominated us in the Muddy Stilettos Awards 2018 in Surrey. Out of the 13 nominations in the Best Florist category, we made the top 5.

Voting has restarted this week until Friday 18 May. You can vote for us at https://surrey.muddystilettos.co.uk/awards/ and find us in the Best Florist Category.

Spring Wedding Flowers

Now that Spring is officially here, weddings are at the forefront for a lot of couples.

If you have chosen dark colours for the bridesmaids, having a colourful bouquet of mixed flowers sets off these dresses perfectly. This hand-tied posy of flowers for a Spring wedding includes Tulips, Freesia, Ranunculus, Ascxlepia, Eustoma and Rosa.

The polychromatic colours of orange, yellow, cerise, purple and liliac work well together.

Be bold; be colourful; be you.

St Eval Candles

We now stock the St Eval scented candles in a tin, and also the Tealights.

These are not available on our website, but are available in our Leatherhead High Street shop.

The candles in a tin have a 45 hour burning time. St Eval are hand crafted in Cornwall and each flavour is inspired by nature giving a beautiful fragrance.

We stock many flavours in this range. At £9.00 per tin, they are a perfect gift for someone - or even yourself.

The other St Eval Candles that we stock are the box set of 9 Tealights. Again, these are only available at our shop in Leatherhead High Street. At £5.40 per box, they are a delightful gift for your home or your friends and family. Bring in the unique smell of these nature inspired candles.

Remember, never leave a burning candle unattended and keep out of reach of children and pets.

Mother's Day 2018

Our delivery book is now full for Saturday 10 March for Mother's Day weekend. So sorry. Joanna

Snow news

Due to the little flurrys of snow that have hit the area over night - we have a restricted delivery service and shop operation at the moment. If you need us, we will be snowballing in the High Street. xx Stay warm.

Bespoke flower classes

Fancy playing with flowers! We are in the process of writing up some workshops which will be held in our shop on Saturday afternoons.

Shop different this year

I've 'borrowed' this image from https://savethehighstreet.org as it reflects how I feel as a retailer.Source of image from savethehighstreet.org

I have been running Eden Florists, Leatherhead for 12 years and I have found that the way people shop has changed dramatically since I started this journey.

Yes, I use the internet to do my shopping like you. I use it to find products that are not available near where I live or work. The websites I use, just so happen to belong to small, independent retailers in other towns. I know that I'm still supporting a small local, independent retailer who has to pay rent and rates for their shop.

Having a shop front is great, I get to meet lovely local people on a regular basis. Having a shop shows that I have made a commitment to the town of Leatherhead. Our customers say the shop is lovely; smells nice; is inviting and colourful.

If people don't use the High Street and support the businesses already there, eventually there will be no High Street shopping experiences anymore; there will be no community spirit; towns will become just places to live (even 'working from home' is changing the High Street).

If you don't use it - you will loose it.

Subscribers' Club

We are delighted to announce the launch of our Subscribers' Club for 2018.

Once a fortnight, we'll send you the best seasonal cut flowers, available from our shop in Leatherhead, delivered in water, directly to your home or work. The idea is that you get to be a little creative in your own home.

The stems are kept long and are not arranged, to enable you to arrange them yourself. The contents will vary on each delivery (giving you the best of what is available at market). Care tips will be provided to ensure that your flowers last a really long time.

Delivery day is Wednesday each fortnight and costs £20.00 per time with delivery free of charge. The flowers are delivered to your work or home address in our delivery area, in a bag of water and cellophane and packaged in a special flower delivery box to protect them. The flowers are not delivered by courier, but by our own driver. There are lots of companies that offer this service, but this is the only service being offered by a local 'bricks and mortar' florist, for local addresses.

The introduction package, does incur a £5.00 delivery charge. However, if you are pleased and wish to continue the service, you will need to contact us directly on 01372 363336 (or we will contact you via email within a few weeks of your introduction) and make future arrangements for your flowers.

2018 and all that it entails ....

Happy New Year. I hope your Christmas and New Year was as good as ours. We will be opening again on Thursday 4 January 2018 after our well earned break. The mind is already going bonkers with ideas that I have and would like to see developing further.

It will take us a few days to get back up to full steam ... so bare with .......

2017 Christmas opening etc

Our order book is already filling up quickly for deliveries for Christmas. We are a small independent business, with a small team of staff and to ensure that all customers receive the same service, we will turn our order book off when we have reached our capacity.

We will close for Christmas on Saturday 23 December at 5pm (promptly - as we are all going out for a well earned meal after). We will then be closed until Thursday 4 January 2018.

After Christmas Eve, orders can still be placed on this website whilst we are physically closed, for delivery on or after 4 January.

2017 Christmas Doorwreath Workshops

Dates have been announced on our FaceBook page. To find out dates that are available - please telephone us as the dates are disappearing fast. xx

Monday 2 October 2017

Just a little note to say that we will be closed all day on Monday, 2 October 2017. Back to normal on Tuesday 3 October. x

Floristry

Floristry is an art, a skill. Each cut of the stem is different each time; each placement of flower is different each time. Each flower acts differently; looks differently; smells differently each time. Each arrangement is as unique as the florist creating the arrangement. A florist is easy to find. A good florist is harder to find.

2017 Summer Holidays

During the summer holidays, we may occasionally shut our shop at 4pm each day. Normal service will resume at the end of the school holidays. xx

Flowers and Handbags

What is not to love. Every girl loves a handbag and every girl loves flowers. Why not combine the two together.

Getting married - some things to think about first

This blog came via #NeighbourhoodAlert, and makes complete sense.

"With the upcoming 'Wedding Season' and for those indivuduals who are considering making plans for next year and beyond, you should be aware of the potential risks of fraud involved.

According to ‘bridesmagazine.co.uk’, in 2017 the average wedding cost spend is approximately £30,111.  This will be paid out to multiple vendors, including; photographers, caterers, reception venues and travel companies, florists, to name a few.  Many of these services will require booking at least several months in advance and you may be obliged to pay a deposit or even the full balance at the time.

Being aware of the potential risks and following the below prevention advice could minimise the likelihood of fraud:

Paying by Credit Card will provide you with protection under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, for purchases above £100 and below £30,000. This means that even if a Company goes into liquidation before your big day, you could claim a refund through your Credit Card Company.

Social Media - Some Companies run their businesses entirely via social media sites, offering low cost services.  Whilst many are genuine, some may not be insured or may even be fraudulent. There are a few things you can do to protect yourself;

  • Ensure you obtain a physical address and contact details for the vendor and verify this information.  Should you experience any problems, you will then be able to make a complaint to Trading Standards or consider pursuing via the Small Claims Court.
  • Ensure you obtain a contract before paying money for services.  Make certain you fully read and understand what you are signing and note the terms of cancellation.

Consider purchasing Wedding Insurance - Policies vary in cover and can be purchased up to two years in advance.  They can protect you from events that would not be covered under the Consumer Credit Act.

Complete research on each vendor, ensuring you are dealing with a bona fide person or company.  Explore the internet for reviews and ratings and ask the vendor to provide details of past clients you can speak to. You should do this even if using companies recommended by a trustworthy friend or source.

For services such as wedding photographers, beware of websites using fake images. Look for inconsistencies in style; Meet the photographer in person and ask to view sample albums. If you like an image from a wedding, ask to view the photographs taken of the whole event so you can see the overall quality.

Remember, if something appears too good to be true, it probably is!"

This information is from Action Fraud (National Fraud Intelligence Bureau).

We are a real local flower shop - not a fake one ..... read on for the full story

You want to order some flowers for your aunt in Leatherhead. You want to support a local florist. You type “florist Leatherhead” into Google, scroll past the paid listings and the ones Google has plotted on a map, and choose a shop with a nice-looking website. Perfect! Only this “local” florist isn’t so local. You tried to make the right choice, but are hurting the very neighborhood flower shop you were trying to patronize when you typed those words in Google. The business behind the site you’ve found is most likely a family-owned flower shop, but not one in your target town. Both you and that local florist that will actually deliver the arrangement have fallen victim to the fake local florist scheme.

Here’s how it works. Most businesses use SEO (search engine optimization) to guide you to their sites. That first page of “Florist Leatherhead Surrey” search results on Google is prime real estate, and companies work hard and/or pay big money to be the first listing that everyone sees, and the only listings that lazy people see. The entire workings of SEO are beyond the scope of this article, but the goal for fake local florists is simple enough: prepare pages for small and large cities and towns, and make sure those pages show up when shoppers go looking for florists in those places.

The page where you land might name local landmarks and mention all of the locations in your town where they deliver: schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and colleges. That information is all for the benefit of search engines. The page might mention that the shop has a fleet of delivery vans, and that they deliver in [name of town in a different county], but these two facts aren’t necessarily related.

Once you click to order, though, the order won’t go to the shop whose name is on the site. Instead, your order goes directly to the relay company. The order goes through exactly as if you had gone right to their website, minus a cut to the shop that runs the site. They then turn around and route the order to one of the local florists in their network.

SO HOW DO I FIND AN ACTUAL LOCAL FLORIST?

The obvious thing is to ask around: Talk to friends and family who live nearby. You can even take the lazy way out and just make a Facebook post. If you don’t know anyone in the area, use Google’s local listings: at least you can see on a map that the shop is located in the correct county. A florist is really local and real when they have their street address on their website.
